Jacob

Jacob is a story about struggle, change, and God’s transforming power.

Jacob

Jacob and the ladder
Jacob’s dream of the ladder

Jacob was the son of Isaac and the grandson of Abraham. He had a twin brother named Esau.

Jacob’s name means “one who takes hold” or “supplanter,” and his life was full of struggle and change.

Jacob once took his brother’s blessing by deception. Because of this, he had to leave his home and run away.

During his journey, God appeared to Jacob in a dream. He saw a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels going up and down.

God promised to be with him and to bless him.

Jacob worked many years and later had twelve sons, who became the fathers of the twelve tribes of Israel.

One night, Jacob wrestled with an angel. After this, God gave him a new name — Israel, which means “one who struggles with God.”

Jacob’s life was not perfect, but he learned to trust God.

God changed his heart and used him to build a great nation.

Jacob’s story teaches that God can change people, forgive mistakes, and use imperfect people for His great plans.
