The French Revolution began in 1789 in France.

Before the revolution, France had an absolute monarchy. The king, Louis XVI, had almost all the power, while ordinary people were very poor.

The main causes of the revolution were high taxes, poverty, hunger, and unfair laws. Rich people had privileges, but poor people paid most of the taxes.

People wanted freedom, equality, and brotherhood. These ideas came from Enlightenment thinkers and became the slogan of the revolution.

One of the most important events was the Storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 . The Bastille was a prison and a symbol of royal power.

Several leaders became famous during the revolution, including Maximilien Robespierre. He supported strict laws and harsh punishments.

During a violent period called the Reign of Terror, many people were executed. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette were killed.

Later, Robespierre also lost power and was executed. After many changes, the revolution helped to create modern democracy in France.

Today, July 14 is a national holiday in France. It celebrates the beginning of the French Revolution and the fight for people's rights.
