Why does it rain?

Seasons change because the Earth is tilted, so different parts of the planet receive different amounts of sunlight during the year.

How seasons change on Earth

The Earth goes around the Sun once every year — 365 days. But the Earth is not straight; it is tilted by about 23 degrees.

Because of this tilt, the Northern Hemisphere gets more sunlight, and summer begins there.

About six months later, the Southern Hemisphere receives more sunlight, and summer starts there. At the same time, it becomes winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Spring and autumn happen between summer and winter.

At the equator, it is always warm because this part of the Earth receives almost the same amount of sunlight all year round.
